BlackBerry Curve 9360

BlackBerry Curve 9360

BlackBerry is quickly releasing phones based on its latest OS 7 and the BlackBerry Curve 9360 is fourth in line.

The phone feels compact and has business looks. Even with an all-plastic body, the build is solid. Although, a rubber coated back cover would have been better than the current glossy cover. The BlackBerry Curve 9360 has dimensions 109 x 60 x 11 mm and has a net weight of just around 99 grams. The phone has a 2.44-inch, 480×360-pixel display. Color rendering is crisp and contrast is good.

BlackBerry Curve 9360 lacks a touch screen

Curve 9360 lacks a touch screen and instead provides five physical buttons for navigation and control – Call, Hang Up, Menu, Back, and an optical trackpad Even though, the track-pad feels responsive and smooth, its usability is limited.

Above the screen, you’ll find the status light and the earpiece. On the right side, there’s a convenience key along with the volume rocker. The convenience key can be programmed to act as a shortcut key for any application. By default, it acts like the camera button. The microUSB port is located on the left. On the top, there is the usual power button and audio jack. Under the battery cover, there is a hot-swap supported microSD slot and a 1000mAH battery.

What powers BlackBerry Curve 9360

Hardware wise, it has an 800MHz processor and a 512MB ram. The processor is better than the other Curve predecessors. Storage capacity of BlackBerry Curve 9360 is 512MB with 32GB expandable memory through microSD card.

Audio quality is decent but nothing to boast about. The loud speaker is powerful. Video capability is impressive with MP4, DivX, XviD, and WMV support. It features a 5-megapixel rear camera and there is no secondary camera. Outdoor images are good but pictures taken indoors on close range aren’t as good. Also, when seen on bigger displays, the pictures show fringing and inconsistencies at times.

If there is one thing BlackBerry is known to excel at, its email and productivity apps. Email support is top-notch once again and very simple to setup. It also comes with applications to help you create and view documents on the go. The BlackBerry messenger allows you to send instant messages to other BlackBerry users and groups of users. With BBM 6, you can now use messaging features inside applications. The pre-installed apps include Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo Messenger and Gtalk. Social networking clients Twitter and Facebook are also bundled

The Curve has support for Near Field Communication (NFC) which allows data transfer between two smart phones. It is an upcoming technology which allows communication at close range. Devices can exchange data and settings when tapped together. It’s a good move by BB to include the chipset for NFC.

Overall, BlackBerry Curve 9360 is a combination elegant design, decent hardware specs, good multimedia support and excellent productivity applications.
