Recently, BlackBerry has been in all sorts of trouble. So what does a phone company do when its sales are in trouble? It launches new handsets to lure more customers. BlackBerry Bold 9900 is a result of this move.

The design of the BlackBerry Bold 9900 has a resemblance to the previous Bold handsets. However, the phone feels broader as compared to its predecessors. The phone measures 115 x 66 x 10.5mm, a 4mm reduction in thickness from the original Bold handset.

Deep Look into BlackBerry Bold 9900

The BlackBerry Bold 9900 has a screen lock button on the top of the handset. The button is well designed so as to avoid accidental unlocks when the phone is in your pocket. The volume control buttons are on the right side. On the left side, there is a headphone slot and a microUSB port. There is also a configurable convenience key at the bottom right and it’s set to “camera” by default. The button is oddly placed and causes accident presses when gripping the phone tightly.

The device is the first one to use Blackberry’s latest OS 7. What’s surprising is that OS7 looks nothing like a brand new operating system. Rather, it feels like a modified version of the previous OS 6. The 9900 is armed with a 1.2GHz, single-core Snapdragon CPU with 768 MB of RAM. Hardware accelerated graphics is taken care by an Adreno 205 GPU. BlackBerry’s effort in speeding up its devices is quite evident here as the 9900 feels blazingly fast. There’s 8GB of internal memory and a microSD card can take the total storage to a whopping 32GB.

The keyboard is fantastic and easily wins over the previous Bold handsets. Keys require very little pressure and are quite responsive. The keypad facilitates typing quickly with ease. BlackBerry has always tried to improve its keypad performance and the keypad on the Bold 9900 is a definite winner.

The BlackBerry Bold 9900 sports a 2.8-inch display with a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels. Color display is crisp and the brightness is perfect. Touch screen on the 9900 is smooth and responsive.

The 9900 marks the introduction of HD Video Recording in BlackBerry phones. Videos can now be recorded at 720. The video quality is impressive. Though BlackBerry has reduced the battery capacity, the Bold drained just around half after 18 hours of usage. For heavy users, the battery will last just around a day. The BlackBerry Bold 9900 is the first BlackBerry to support NFC, or Near Field Communication, which is a short-range wireless technology (4cm or less) that allows two devices to communicate. NFC will allow two devices to pair when brought close to each other.

In conclusion, the BlackBerry Bold 9900 is one of the best BlackBerry Smartphones in the market. The BlackBerry Bold 9900 is worth buying for its elegant display, build quality, faster processing and a fantastic keyboard.
